  • I am assuming you have not initialized Report builder so go to the folder below and run it before trying to locate it in report manager.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\ReportBuilder

  • thanks Peddie.

I located the report builder.exe and ran it. It opened the report builder window and i created a sample report.

but it shows data source problem.

i still cant run the report builder from the report manager window

    please help.

i have tried googling and the other blogs on this but no posts on this particular one. really fighting with this.

    Really appreciate your help

  • I don't know what to tell you mine runs even without report manager but I have not created reports models or datasource. I am running XP so what operating system are you running and what edition of SQL Server because it does not come with Express and not easy to run without Standard or Enterprise.

  • mine is windows XP and sql server standard edition.

    i cant get to http:\\localhost\Reports

yesterday i was finally able to get to it and i could deploy my reports. but today my report builder would not start. it was asking me for some credentials. so i thought the report builder must have been corrupted and tried to uninstall everything and reinstalled everything afresh. i cldnt get to do the default instance anymore because it says its still present on teh system.

    so i used named instance.

now my question is hopw do i browse to get to report manager using url

    please help

  • If it is asking you for an account it is both good and bad, good because I can help you fix it, bad because it took me about half to one day to fix each errror with the login page. So I will write it up and post it because I am also running XP but not SQL Server Standard. Now to be clear this is for report manager not the builder because I have no problem with that.

  • Go to control panel User Accounts and create an account make it Admin account create password for the account then add SQL Server login for the account. Then add the account as Admin in ReportServerDB, ReportServerTempDB, and the DataSource DB. This will let you login to Report manager but your reports will not run because it will error out.

Go back to control panel then to Admin tool then local security then to local policies, then User Rights Assignment scroll down to Allow Logon locally double click it and then Add that account to the list of accounts. This will let you see the Reports but login is still required.

Now the last step to remove the login prompt open IE go to tools options and then security then click local intranet, then sites then click Automatically detect intranet network, then Advanced and then add the Report Manager url in there and the login prompt will go away. I had to do this because I tried the option posted by SSRS employee and my SSRS config file did not include what the person said to remove. I run VS2008 Team Suites which is he Team Foundation Server Main Development Tool. So print out the above and get to work and Goodluck.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the explanation but i gave in anonymous access and it worked.

my problem still continues. i need to pas to the end user and the report builder does not launch on my system as it was supposed to do. when i click on the button it says its downloading and stops there. i have to manually invoke it from the folder as you advised me the other day

i tried to uninstall and reinstall but nothing works

when i try to google iam getting my query back. noone else has this problem. only me

    thanks

  • Rerun setup and choose repair also make sure you choose all components, on a side note you may have to work through what I posted because I also used anonymous before going through the spaces to fix this complex problem with login prompt.
