While instaling failover instance on w2k3(sp2) iam getting update hotfix 3024 error.
This means should I apply any hotfix befor installing failoverinstance?
and also iam not upgrading anything.I installed sql2k5 EE as first instance n iam trying to install 2nd failover instance. Eventhough Iam not upgrading , in System configuration check it giving me edition change warning
Error String : The setup has encountered an error while Upgrading Components. The error: -2147019873
Error message: The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
Error Number : 29550
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) - Update 'Hotfix 3024 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB000000)' could not be installed. Error code 1603
What will be the best solution?

I haven't seen this before. My guess is that you didn't complete something on the first instance that was installed. Did you install any hotfixes or patches on that first node?

I applied only sp2. I did not applied any cumulative update.

Do you want me to apply the cumulative update. If that is the reason. could you please tell me the best cumulative update?

or you want me to check the windows level hotfix. We are using windows 2003 x-64 and applied SP2,

But Iam not sure whether any hot fixes are applied the system Admin?

the update hotfix 3024 is for windows 2003?

Hi, I resolved the problem as follows:

On all of the MCSC nodes search in the registry HKLM for "Hotfix 3204" omitting the quotes - look for the key "Uninstallabe" and change the dword value from 0 to 1.

All the usual registry provisos apply ie back up your registry before you do this.

This worked for me..

I am also having same problem. trying to add another named instance (2K5). Currently I have few other instances(2K5) with SP3 CU10.

Could this be related to Windows KB 937444? This fix is required for Filestream to work with a SQL 2008 cluster on W2003, but may have other benefits to SQL 2005.
