Points Suggestion

  • The points system is good as far as it goes, as it gives you a guide as to the degree of participation of another member.

Could I suggest the points system could be extended to include submitted scripts and articles, perhaps moderated by how well rated or read the scripts and articles are. This would give a better indication of the degree of participation of the members.

An alternate suggestion would be a link to a list of the persons scripts/articles in their posting identification (alongside the points score/ SSC Mentality rating)

I suggest this because I'd like an easier link to some of our popular posters articles and scripts.

  • Not a bad suggestion. I've avoided rating people on subjective items like articles and script quality varies widely.

I'll talk about it with the group here and see what they think and what development efforts would be required.

  • Steve - are points awarded for submitting a QoTD?

I think a points awarding system based on the rating of an article and/or number of reads would be useful - I guess it boils down to how easy it is for you to administer.

Jeff Moden suggested a similar approach a while back (http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost443368.aspx)

  • We aren't awarding points for submissions. some of that is because it would be subjective in how to do this. How do I compare a question written to a question answered.

I know the same issues are with posts. Some are good posts, some aren't, but this feels different. We'll talk about it and see if there is a way to set up something for articles, scripts, and QODs published.

  • Maybe just a standard x points for an article, y for a script and z for a QotD if they pass the moderator and make it onto the site. So you're not evaluating how good or bad the submission is, just acknowleging the persons effort in making a submission.

  • I shall ask how much effort is involved there. With quite a few bugs, it's a matter of priority.

  • Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.

Is there a page that explains the SSC points system anywhere?
