  • I'm very much hoping to attend. Though, since I'll be 4 months into a new job at the time, it may be a little tricky.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I wish I could be there. It is not possible for me to be there but I hope Steve and his team will update us from there.

    🙂

More correctly stated, I'm "Planning on Planning"... Although my plane ticket certainly wouldn't cost as much as your's, I have to plan the time (time off is $Lost), come up with the high price of the conference, pay for a plane ticket, get a hotel room, eat... you know the drill. And, I gotta make sure it's actually worth it.... what am I going to learn besides what some of the faces of people look like? 😀

Basically, I'm a cheap bugger and I want my $$$ worth. :hehe:

Thanks for the URL... I'll take a look.

I'm in a similar position. I'm not even going to bother asking my employer to give me a week off and shell out £2500 for conference fees, flights and accommodation. And I'm not quite dedicated enough to do it on my own time and money.

Yah. Is going to be the same for me. No company to pay this time....

You won't find the details of who's presenting what yet. The call for speakers only closed recently and they haven't made any decisions.

  • Which are the "3 days dedicated to only SQL Server information"? Tuesday - Thursday or Wednesday - Friday? I would want to leave Thursday evening for personal reasons but am unsure if I could justify leaving early to my boss, unless Friday was sort of a blow-off conference day anyhow.

  • Wed-fri. Mon and tues are usually Pre-conference days.

The friday is sometimes slower than the other 2 days. I wouldn't say it's worth missing though.

  • What you'll learn? Hard to say, but you can search "PASS Summit" here on the site and we've usually gotten 2-3 people to write about it.

The conference is Wed-Fri, Fri is not a bad day. It's full of similar sessions, sometimes with a couple repeats of popular sessions. I've blown off days before for various reasons, so it's really up to you.

The thing about Seattle is that there are lots of MS guys and gals there. Most of them can get a day off and bus over, unlike getting approval for travel to Denver/Dallas/Orlando as in years past. Getting a chance to talk to them is really valuable, even if it's 10 minutes. You can't find that expertise elsewhere.

You also get to talk to lots of other DBAs. As nice as the forums are, they're not a substitute for some face time with people.

  • Well, looks like I will be going. Hope to see some of you there!
