I'm acquainted with various databases like ms access etc. but never worked with MySQL before...
Where is the best beginner forums and/or urls to get me started...
What is the best stable version to start with?

Not on this forum. This is spcifically for Microsoft SQL Server. However, you can find all that you need at http://dev.mysql.com/.
Due to my experience over the last several years in both environments feel free to contact me for other information.
