recovery model

  • Are you allowed to set a user database in full recovery model if the model database is in simple mode?

  • MODEL database is used for Templet.

When the user will create the new database it will use the templet of MODEL database to create new database and all setting will be inherited to new database.

Hence when user will create database if you wish to have all your new database in Full Recovery mode; You need to put the MODEL database into full recovery mode else after the creating database user have to set full recovery.

No harm in putting MODEL database in Full recovery mode.

  • Thanks for the answer but if you set the model database in simple mode can I change some of my user database to be in full mode and some still in simple mode?

Yes. Recovery mode is seperate for each database. The only time model database comes into play is when you setup a new user database with default settings.

  • OK Thank you!
