I have sql server 2005 where i have created publisher for database. now at my another computer where i have SQL server Express edition installed there i want to create pull subscription. Is it possible? Sql server express edition support to create pull subscription?

Overall i want to create replication which support web synchoronization.(All client computer have Sql server express edition installed.)

    Thanks

  • SQL Express does support a pull subscriptions.

What you cannot have is SQL Express as a publisher.

  • Hello Neil

    Thanks for your reply.

  • OK... I'm a newbie returning after a several months absence... here's the scenario: Express Edition (Compact ed?) does not support scheduling regular backups, so the goal is to use a different machine, with SS2k5 Std Ed to 'pull' a subscription from EE (CE?) and then backup from the copies, since that will not require interrupting the production's database online capabilities.

    1. Is this feasible?

    2. Is it difficult? I'm not looking for the answer on a silver platter, but just direction(s) to go in ... since I'm supposed to know this already, but don't, or forgot it through lack of use...

    3. We will need to maintain both 'onsite' and 'offsite' backups because of the nature of the client - the assumption is that a replication / backup schedule which reduces data loss windows to under 15 minutes will be acceptable (perhaps 5?) - a fairly low transaction volume here...

    TIA!

    Steve
