Business Intelligence Developer Certification

  • Hello,

I'm interested in obtaining Microsoft's "Business Intelligence Developer" certification.

In order to obtain the certification one must pass both the 70-445 and 70-446 tests.

Can anybody recommend books to use to prepare? Also, while I primarily use books to prepare for certifications, if you can recommend any other study materials that would be helpful as well.

    Thanks,

    Attila

  • There are no books yet for these exams (I've been looking), but this article was recently published on the site. It might help you out:

  • V,

I appreciate the link to Amazon and Microsoft (I didn't know about those books), but...

You'd better amend your post. TestKing, Pass4Sure and BrainDump are all brain dump sites and therefore illegal sources to use when studying for an exam.

Not to mention that brain dumps are chock full of mistakes and errors that could help a person fail an exam before Microsoft ever has a chance to revoke the certification due to cheating.

  • Brandie,

I just gave suggestion / links to have a picture of understanding of how the questions will be and the areas where from the questions are asked so that the person can have a fair view of the paper.

Its upto the individual either to go search for best manual books relevant with the exam topics and work around with that.

  • If the MS exam security people notice you offering brain dump links, there's a good chance that you will have any certifications you have revoked and a ban placed on your account. They are serious about that.

I would suggest you edit your post and remove those links. Besides, I'm sure Steve doesn't want to be associated with exam cheat sites.

  • check out the microsoft certification page for the BI certification.

I've got most of the books listed, like step by step analysis services etc. Some ramble a little, but do have some useful info.

The best way to learn the tools I think is to go over the tutorials provided in the SQL2005 on line book (help files).

Also amazon now sell the 70-445 book.

(PS - I studying for the exam as well, so if you find anything really useful, let me know please.)

  • I'm not sure what you guys are getting all fussy about...those links and exams don't even exist on those sites. Besides what better study guide is there then a copy of the real test?

    😎

Other than the answers on those sites quite often been wrong?

    Firstly, it's simple cheating.

It reduces the perceived value of the certification, when people sporting a cert can't answer the simplest of questions or perform th simplest of tasks

Using or posting braindumps can get your certifications revoked

  • I guess if you were just memorizing answers and not learning it would be a bad thing as you described. Assuming you have some working knowledge of the subject matter and have read some documentation preparing; a close copy of the actual test (IMO) would just be a good study guide, not cheating.

  • Not according to Microsoft.

And not according to the thousands of teachers who at Elementary, Junior High, Senior High, College and University institutions across the United States. Using a copy of the test for study is, according to all those sources, cheating. Plain and simple.

If you don't know the source material well enough to answer any question unprepared, then you don't know the material.

I assume you have documentation to support your statements?

    ...or...

You have personally spoken to thousands of teachers at those levels mentioned to confirm this?

Popular opinion isn't always correct nor true and just as I stated in previous post this is my opinion. Take it or leave it but you nor anyone else has the right to infringe upon my beliefs and what I consider cheating.

    Happy Halloween B-)

  • Ben,

I'm not trying to flame, but your "definition" bugs me, so I find myself needing to respond.

Have you actually read Microsoft's NDA and their EULA regarding their certification tests? Microsoft has stated numerous times that using exam copies constitutes cheating.

As far as your definition of the word "cheat"... I went out to the internet and found the first dictionary I could find.

Dictionary.com says Cheat means "...To act dishonestly; practice fraud.

To violate rules deliberately..." and since Microsoft prohibits brain dumps and test copying, this tells me that to look at a copy of the test is, by publically accepted dictionary definitions, definitely cheating.

And if you want more documentation, I'd be happy to go clip newspaper articles, interview teachers, call the news media for copies of old stories, and check out several other dictionary brands for the proof of my earlier statement. In fact, I've talked to at least 25 teachers both in my own school career and people I happen to be friends with who have actually complained about cheating students in my presence. I'd be happy to have them call you if you want other people's opinions.

This is the U.S.A. First Amendment rights give you the ability to have your difference of opinion. And more power to you for not letting the naysayers change your mind. I have no idea if you actually do use brain dumps or test copies or if you're just stating your opinion on it. Still, if you do actually use that stuff you'd better not get caught by MS or you will have your certs revoked and be prevented from getting any in the future. That is plain fact and not my opinion.

  • Fact is that Brain Dump sites might help you get a cert, but they won't help you get a job. You won't actually learn anything from them.

  • Thanks for the input everyone. Now I know where to get started.

As for the debate of the brain dumps, let's just let this one be.
