Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored.

  • Hi All,

Can anyone provide a solution for error while exporting data to excel from SQl Reporting Services 2000.

Sub report data is not displayed in excel, instead excel cell shows "Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored " error.

    Regards,
    Sujaya.
  • If the subreport is inside the table and that subreport has another table in it... it wont display... alternative is to change your subreport... remove the table inside the subreport and convert it into List's with text boxes... try that ... hope that helps

  • Any word on a fix for this "Documented Limitation"?

  • They've known about it for 3? years now.  I doubt they are going to do anything about it any time soon.

  • hi,

I use the sub report with list boxes only as you said, but still I am getting the same error.

    Please suggest me the solution.

  • Exporting to Excel with a subreport within the report is a limitation. It does not mather what kind of subreport it is.

So my question to you is why are you using a subreport?

  • Hi,

    thanks for your reply.

I have a matrix in my main report.Inside the matrix I have placed this subreport.Because the data displayed by the subreport is from a different data set.If I try to place the data directly in the matrix then it is showing an error. But my requirement is to place the data generated by a different dataset inside the top left of the matrix,so that it is shown in all the pages if I export to PDf.

  • hi,

What kind of data do you have in your subreport and isn't it possible to build up your report with nested lists?

  • thanks for the reply.

No Its not possible.I can have only matrix in my main report.

Is there any other way to put the data from another dataset into the matrix.

  • Yes it is possible as far as i know in sql server 2008 with the new tablix (not 100% sure of it)

But I wonder if it's possible to combine the two datasets in the query (but then i need some more information on the datasets)

  • Hi!

My solution to this problems was very simple. I don't know is suit for all situations but, you'll could try, and tell me what do you think about this.

I was using a Table, my main report use 4 subreports, I created 1 row and merge the columns, put a rectangle and after put all subreports in the rectangle, and that is.

When I export the report to excel, all subreports were shown

  • I think Alex's solution works with SSRS 2005

But SSRS 2005 wont support the nested report items, while exporting in to Excel.

That limitaion was fixed in SSRS2008. if you could able use SSRS 2008, you will see that difference.

  • Hi,

Its a limitation in SSRS 2005.. but it works fine in SSRS 2008
