I had hoped that Service Broker would address most of the issues with replication but it seemed to add complication and obscurity, not reduce it.
Having worked with replication over the years I would be surprised if many people are fully aware of just how powerful a tool it is. I still feel I have a lot to learn and have certainly made mistakes and abused it as a result of not understanding some basic principles. If a data scientist needed access to near realtime data from a table in frontend systems I knew I could take a sip of coffee, run sp_addarticle, possibly sp_addsubscription, take another sip of coffee and continue with the other 7hours 59 minutes of my day having satisfied my data customer.
I much prefer the publisher/distributor/subscriber model over master/slave replication. The latter sounds simpler but rapidly becomes limiting or inadvertently complicated.
It is worth spending a lot of time in BOL learning what all the options of the replication stored procs actually do. There are a few "Where have you been all my life" features hidden in there.

When it works, replication is great and free out of the box (do you have to pay extra for this in Oracle?), it still has it's uses.
When it doesn't work, well, pour some coffee and prepare for a long night. :crazy:
