To be clear, I don't agree with sitting still, or that it's a good excuse that your company won't use knowledge, so why bother to learn.

I think you need to learn. If only for yourself. If you like your craft, then get better. Who cares if anyone pays you more or wants to use your work. Do it for yourself. It makes you better.
