Instead of using variables in the child package, use parameters. You can then pass the variables within the parent package as parameters to the child.
+1, this is the way to do it.
If you haven't even tried to resolve your issue, please don't expect the hard-working volunteers here to waste their time providing links to answers which you could easily have found yourself.
