Getting more valuable data from SSRS

  • Hi all, not a tech question but a business one.

    I'm taking over as DBA at a Healthcare company soon, and as this is a field I'm passionate about, I'd like to help them get the most valuable, actionable data from their databases.

    I appreciate this takes me somewhat out of the traditional DBA/Dev role where we are asked to use certain query parameters to yield results, and instead we actively go looking through the data to see what the business COULD leverage.

    They/we are moving to building a Data Warehouse soon, so I can see they want to make use of data mining, but I'd like them to maximise yield, and be able to go back to the Business Manager(s) and say, "Do you think if we use our existing list of X partner firms with Y current characteristics (ie late payers) and I can develop code to look for common traits they had but better paying clients do NOT, that you'd be able to set tighter limits on the most likely future non-payers?"

    (Just an example, could be any other business function)

    Any case histories/studies you guys can link me to or write out here? I've got the beginnings in place:

    - Inventorise the data (create ERD's)

    - Go over existing reports

    - Elicit from current stakeholders current and (desired) future reporting;

    However I'm not sure how to proceed from there. Ideas / articles welcome !!

    Thanks

    JB
