SQL Server 2014 BI Edition Update Hangs

  I apologize if this has been posted before, but I was unable to find anything via the search function and I must not be finding the correct combination of google key words.

  I am attempting to update SQL Server 2014 BI Edition (12.0.4100.1) to SP 2. Initially the installer did nothing and hung at the "Initiating instance servicing." message with no progress shown in the Update Progress window for about 3 hours. I ended up killing the installer via task manager and rebooting the server (figured this wasn't the best approach, but didn't know what else to do). Once I verified basic functionality of the server and it seemed I hadn't fried anything, I proceeded with attempting the update again.

  I manually extracted the installer to a different drive (C - system) as this is a development server that has been through a fair amount and I'm not sure precisely how the drives are provisioned on our SAN. I did get more progress from the installer, but it's currently hung at this point captured in the attached screenshot for about an hour. Since this is a dev server, it's not the end of the world should I not be able to update it, but I do have another SQL 2014 BI Server that I would of course like to keep patched.   I would greatly appreciate any troubleshooting advice or suggestions anyone could provide as I'm out of my depth at this point.
