No Description Found creating new or editing existing maintenance plans on SQL 2008

  • This is a new client running SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2). There is no option to upgrade the SP for some time, so hoping that's not the solution. Everything I've read relating to this error is SQL 2005 so it should be fixed by now.

I'm running SQL 2016 Management Studio on Windows 10. I have verified that the 2 jobs both have a description, the schedule has a description so there are no missing descriptions.

I've also tried the "fix" or registering a couple dlls that didn't fix it.

This is extremely annoying that I can't create a maintenance plan. I do not want to have to install Visual Studio either.

  • I downgraded my Management Studio to 2012 and it's working now. Silly SSMS.
