• I've been in IT for almost 30 years now and I've rarely seen bias like everyone talks about. Every time I say that people say well that's because you're a white male. No, I say it because I do not condone any type of bias or racism in any organization I've managed. There are less women and minorities in all the organizations I've been in, but only because there have just plain been less candidates. That is changing though, and I love it. I love to see people of color and women succeed and start to become more involved in the IT business. It's never been about "can they do it" at all... of course they can. The women that get hired in tech positions do just as well and sometimes better than the men. In the rare cases where I have seen bigotry/racism or bias those people are confronted and dealt with stringently. It has not been tolerated whatsoever. I've never seen anything like what the author was talking about with blatant racism involved in picking a candidate. That manager would have had a huge problem on their hands.
