I would "shamelessly" (due to a bit of interest conflict as an SSC author before) suggest that SSC needs to greatly increase the payment for published articles. At a current rate of $25/article (the same rate 10 years ago), you cannot get serious high-quality articles, but again, I think this may be the strategy of Red-Gate (who owns SSC) because Red-Gate already has another higher quality website, i.e. simple-talk.com.:-P
