Missing records in subscriber

  • We ran into a situation this afternoon. We found 2 records missing from one of the tables in subscriber database but they are present in the publisher. As far as I can tell there has been no errors in replication, it is caught up with only a lag time of under 3 seconds. These records were added to publisher about 45 days ago but they just were noticed missing today from the subscriber (so unclear as to when the actually went missing or even made it over from the publisher).

    My questions are as follows:

    1. What would happen if the records on the publisher are updated or deleted with no matching record in the subscriber? Error out on just that transaction or would that do more damage to replication in general

    2. Can I just import the 2 records into the subscriber from the publisher? (I can't really delete/re-add them in the publisher because they have other records that are tied to them in other tables, which btw those records are in the subscriber).

We are in the process of trying to track down if a user deleted them out of the subscriber, but would like to get them in again. This is a pretty good sized subscriber (700 GB uncompressed, 200 GB compressed) so pulling a table out and re-adding back takes few hours for the snapshot to run, but if that is what is best that is what I'll do).

    Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!!

    CJ
