SSRS Bug when putting dataset data in the page header and rendering to PDF

  • I have a report that page-breaks between the top parent grouping. I need a "long header" for the first page of each group, and I need a "short header" that prints for all the rest of the pages after the first. I have achieved this by putting the "short header" in the Page Header section and the "long header" as the actual group header inside the tablix in the Body section. To populate the "short header" with a value within the group, I have used custom code that runs once-per-grouping to set a variable value. A text box in the Page Header references the variable.

This works fine 90% of the time, but every once in a while a child grouping breaks onto a new page in just a certain way, and then in the Page Header is the NEXT group value, not the current one. Usually the next grouping has the wrong data in the header also, but the one after that is normally right.

I have found way to work around this apparent bug. Has anyone else experienced this? And, even more importantly, has anyone found a way to avoid it?
