Investment Firm in Seattle seeking Senior DBA - full time permanent position

  • Folks,

I'm currently doing some contract work for an excellent investment firm in downtown Seattle. I was an employee with them for 19 years and I can vouch for the company and the people. They are looking for a senior DBA to work with the Database Architect and the Dell managed services team. The position title is Senior Database Technician, but if you read the description, there's a lot more than the title implies.

The Database Architect you'll be interviewing with really knows his stuff and has been doing this for a long time, so please, if you're not comfortable being given a great deal of responsibility over a highly critical environment, don't waste your time applying.

The details can be found at http://www.russell.com. I've included the summary below. If you decide to apply, shoot me a PM.

Russell Investments is seeking a Senior Database Technician responsible for providing hands-on technical expertise and support of the database environment with focus on information storage, retrieval, data flow and analysis. The technician will assist with relational and/or Object-Oriented database management and support. Responsibilities include providing direction and guidance of every enterprise project related to the development of database structures and to ensure seamless integration into the architecture of existing systems. Technical expertise to make configuration updates among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls for optimal performance. The technician will also assist with the analysis, evaluation and provide recommendations for system improvements, optimization and maintenance efforts.

The candidate will develop a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas. Additional responsibilities include developing a security scheme for the database environments, assists with disaster recovery exercises and provides leadership in the development, design, and enhancement of production application by partnering with applications and technical support teams. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with the entire ecosystem of a database system to include: Hardware, Software, Security, Reliability, Clustering, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery in the physical, cloud and/or IaaS environment.

And then again, I might be wrong ...
