We are planning to upgrade to 2012. I want to do side by side migration. This is the first time I'm doing a migration. I have database mail in place and a couple of SSIS packages.Which would be a best route-
1.Install 2005 sp4 on new server.
2.Backup all user and system databases and restore on new server. This way I would not have to worry about jobs, logins, database mail and packages.
3.Upgrade to 2012.
OR
1.Install 2012 on new server.
2.Backup and restore user databases on new server.
3.Recreate logins, jobs and packages whic were scripted from the old 2005 version.
