License File Error on Reinstall

  • Just uninstalled SQL 2012 Standard and reinstalled SQL 2012 Developer on a server that we have taken from production to development. But when I reinstalled and moved all the system databases back in place, everything works perfectly fine until you try to open SSMS on the local machine. Then you get the following error message:

An error has occurred while trying to access the license validation file. Please reinstall SQL Server to correct this file.

I've looked all over and I tried the registry key that was recommended then uninstalled and reinstalled SSMS again to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quick questions, what is the return of SELECT @@VERSION on the server and what is the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studioversion?

    😎

  • It shows as upgraded successfully.
