Half my team are stuck on windows XP so it's not an option. I'm on Windows 7 so will be planning on installing SSMS 2014.Ideally we are looking to upgrade the other members to Windows 7.

You need to get rid of XP. If management does not want to spend some bucks on that, let them know. Provide the links and the Os requirements. They will eventually do it.
Having said that, a cheap and ugly workaround, would be setup 2 or 3 machines (could be virtual machines) with Win7 or a recent Windows Os, install Management Studio and let them connect via RDP. I think the Os allow up to two people that way.
