Upgrading SQL Server 2008 Work Group RunTime to 2014 Standard

  • I hope someone may have some insights, suggestions and possibly documentation regarding a pending upgrade. We currently have a SQL Server 2008 Work Group edition runtime license from our primary software vendor. We would like to migrate a number of old access DB's to SQL and have purchased SQL Server 2014 Standard Edition licensing.

It's my understanding from a couple of documents I found from Microsoft that the runtime vs full license installs are the same code but the runtime has stricter limitations for use. If the code is the same then should the upgrade path be similar to any full version to full version upgrade?

Does anyone have a recommended upgrade process they would like to suggest?
