Reports with Header, sub header and detail data

  • Hi.

Hoping someone can help here as I've been going round in circles for two days now. All the on-line searches simply don't seem to match the issue I have. It may be that SQl can't do what I want, but at the moment I'd rather go back 20 years and do the whole thing in Cobol! At least it was predictable! These newer tools are supposed to make life easier!

I'm using SQL Report builder as the client insists I have to RDP in, so SSRS or Data Tools is out of the question.

The report in question should be simple.

.... shows space as the forum only accepts one between characters!

Header Information Across the page please in two lines and every page

    Report ID........................................................................................................Date and Time

    Offer Number........Offer Description............Reason 1 ........ Reason 2

Subheader Also across the page. There may be several of these within the header. New page on change

    Branches affected.........Start date........End Date

    Detail

Col 1, Col 2, Coll 3, Col4 ..... to Col 10. None of these needs to be summed or aggregated. Might be several on a page

    The issues I'm having are:

1, Report builder insists I put something in Values yet I have nothing that needs to be calculated!.

    2. Report builder doesn't let me put the header lines on the same row. It puts them all on different rows. If I drag them up it doesn't align properly and overwrites in the same space!

    3. I don't seem able to get a group within a group. Indeed I perfectly understand Group By in SQL but froups seems to have a different meaning here.

Are there any on-line resources that will help or is it really a case of having to go on a course to prepare what is a standard business report?

    Many thanks
