Hi,
I often have to write SQL statements and then use them in a SSRS report.
My managers and leaders tell me that if I do not have any parameters in the report, then I should put a dummy parameter in the report. This will just have run the report and Yes as a selection.
They tell me to do this because otherwise when the use clicks on the report it will just take off and run. Instead not the user has to select, form a drop down "YES" and then the report runs.
Either way it will run the same SQL statement, but they say that this takes fewer resources on the server.
My question: (1) is this the true? That is is there a difference i the resources used on the server, if I just have it run, or if I have the user kick it off.
And if so:
(2) How does it take fewer resources? That is is haveing the user run it.
Thank you
