New Report Server

  • We have a new report server setup and would like to copy everything over from Report Server A to Report Server B. Before taking Report Server A offline, we want to verify all reports, datasources, subscriptions, and permissions are correct. What is the Best Practice approach to this project?

Our current plan is to backup the Report Server and Report Server Temp databases on Report Server A and restore to Report Server B. We will also backup the Encryption Key on Report Server A and restore to Report Server B. Is there anything that these steps will miss? Will we need to manually do anything to get this working?

Also, we will migrating the data databases to a new server as well, so we will need to add/update the current datasource connections on the new Report Server B. Is there a way to change the datasources for all the reports in one shot? I am hoping we do not have to open each report and point them to the new datasources.

Any help or feedback will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

  • I've found it helpful to use windows explorer and browse/search the reporting server(s) directly. That way I can search for all .rdl (report) or .rsds (data source) files. That won't help for permissions or subscriptions though.
