Running sp_mergemetadataretentioncleanup to clean up MSmerge_contents.

  • Hello,

After running a trace to identify a system slowdown, I have noticed that anything that reads from the MSMerge_Contents table is taking a long time and slowing down the system to the point where it is unworkable (almost).

I found the sp_mergemetadataretentioncleanup, and was looking to run it on the publishing database and subscription. I assume if one was publishing database 'A', then database 'A' is what you would run it against, not sure what to run it against at the subscsriber though.

Do I have to stop the merge agents before running this?

Are there any gotchas I need to worry about.

I really hope someone can help me with this as I am new to merge replication, and dont want to make a mistake. Thank you in advance for reading and any help, much appreciated. I am running SQL 2008 ENT, but the database is running on a database compatibility mode for SQL 2000.

    Kind Regards,

    D.
