Add Replication to a SQL 2005 SP2 Standard Edition instance of SQL -- how to do this?

  • Hi everyone,

We have a SQL 2005 SP2 Standard Edition server (9.00.3042) we need to make a Distributor, but the Replication components weren't installed when the server was initially installed from RTM and it's now on SP2. When I try to use the SQL 2005 RTM media (9.00.1399.0) it says it can't install an older version of replication on a newer version of SQL. I checked MSDN and they don't have SQL 2005 with SP 2 available. And from what I've read Slipstreaming with SQL 2005 doesn't work.

So what to do? I read some work around with editing the registry to set the IsInstalled to '1' and adding the DLL's manually, or installing from command line then editing the registry. I hoped though there was a documented way of doing this per Microsoft's suggestions, but thus far I can't find any. But in the end whatever works...

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

    Sam
