I am aware this is an old post but thought I'd share my findings.

Each database does appear to need the same compatibility level. If you go to both databases using SSMS then goto properties of each database and then select options if you check that both compatibility levels are the same Then the "Transfer Objects Task" module in SSIS will work.

This has worked for me and has not appeared to have any knock on effects to anything else.
