Hi,
I have an instance that is in version: SQL Server 2008 SP3 ( 10.00.5500 )
I have to restore a database into that instance from another instance that is in a higher version level: SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 ( 10.50.4000 ).
The restore fails because I am trying to restore from a higher version level.
My question is: Is it possible to upgrade SQL Server 2008 SP3 instance up to SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 ?

Can you upgrade 2008 to 2008R2? Yes, absolutely. There may be licensing costs involved. You'll need to contact Microsoft to see what the situation with your license may be.

What? On how to upgrade? You get the software for SQL Server and you start clicking Next, Next, Finish. Here's a Microsoft lesson plan that walks you through a lab upgrade.
