I am not really sure where this question fits in as far as the forum goes - so feel free to move it if this is not the correct area.
I just want others opinions on whether to use local VM's for demos at user groups, sql saturday events, etc. Or if others have been moving to cloud based demos. Which work better?
I know local VM's are nice because you don't have to rely on an internet connection, but most places have this available for speakers these days. The downfall is you have to have a killer laptop to support this if you need multiple VM's (Mine has an i7 and 12GB RAM). With more and more cloud based options emerging, I would suspect others are starting to use that as an option.
Thoughts?

I only go to the clouds for my demos if I'm actually demoing cloud stuff. Too much can go wrong in demos anyway. Adding in connectivity on top of it is almost begging for issues.
That said, I've very successfully demo'd cloud behavior at a large number of venues. I can be done.

Thanks Grant. That is pretty much what I thought. I will continue with my laptop setup then.

I think you can support multiple VMs without having a "killer laptop", especially if you have an SSD attached (or even a fast USB3 flash drive, like my Patriot 128GB one).
If you do go the cloud-VM route, I strongly recommend having a 4G connection of some type you can use with your laptop as a backup in case the facility WIFI is out, not connectable for security reasons or just not up to snuff bandwidth/latency wise.
