    Yes you can decrease the size of the log file by using dbcc shrinkfile. Before doing that, you should figure out what kind of size you really need in your tlog.

  • You might also want to figure out how it got so big. If there's code that makes it that big or you're not doing TLog backups, that could make for serious problems.

    You need to investigate why it was set to ITB intially. If it's going to grow to that size anyway, shrinking the log file won't be of much use. Just investigate what's causing the log to grow.
