Is anyone else frustrated as I am with the way that newspaper-style columns work in SSRS? By assigning the columns property to the entire Body region, the SSRS programmers have made it practically impossible to put non-columnar headers and footers into the report design along with columnar details in between. The Page Header and Page Footer are non-columnar, but it is difficult to put group data summaries into them because they don't support tablixes.
Wouldn't it make more sense to put "Newspaper Columns" as an option for the rectangle object, so that it would be possible to define them for parts of the Body layout but not necessarily the whole thing?
I'm interested in anyone else's thoughts on the matter, plus any workarounds for this you might know. Right now I'm going to put the group footer into the Page Footer section and use a solution that involves a secondary dataset of aggregated data plus LookupSet functions to pull the correlated data and populate text boxes with the results.
