  Previously, I worked at a place where the Network Admin was responsible for ordering & purchasing SQL upgrades, and I did most of the actual install.

  I am now at a small place where previous installs were handled by a consultant that is no longer involved.

  I want to upgrade away from 2005 (sp4) and 2008 (R0), but not sure how to go about the paperwork, licensing end of things.

  Should we go to 2008 R2, or straight to 2012 ?

  Any suggestions for determining what the best options are for pricing, licensing types etc ... ?

  One SQL server hosts a public website database, with another as warm standby. 2 others are for inhouse reporting (10 users ?), and 2 more are reporting warm standbys.

  And 1 more is for development pre-live testing.
