what are the possible reasons for the sql services are not up ?

someone or something stopped them - automatic process, fatal error, c2 auditing caused shutdown
server rebooted, service not set to automatic

service account password changed, server rebooted over weekend and failed to start due to login error

account password expired
account now disabled in AD
account been deleted from AD
