SSRS Smart TV

  • Good Morning Everyone,

I have a fairly odd question today as you may have guessed from the title 🙂 I've been asked to get a new screen for doing exhibitions and I had the idea that to get good use from the screen we could get a smart tv and use the built in browser to display our reports in the office, sounds pretty cool 😎 but I cant find anything anywhere saying whether or not this will work :ermm:

The type of tv I'm looking at is this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/lg-42ls575t-full-hd-42-led-tv-13374240-pdt.html and if anyone has any insight I'd be very grateful.

    Kind Regards,

    Craig

  • What is the browser that the TV uses?

If it not IE, you will be limited on functionality as MS only test their products with their products, so SSRS is only tested with IE. While certain things will work with other browsers, not all functionality is supported in FireFox, Chrome, Safari, Opera etc etc.

So your probably best off with a bog standard TV hooked up to a PC.

I'd go with that. Can't see SSRS playing nicely with a smart TV browser.

  • You may want to look at alternatives like a SMARTboard, or a AcitvBoard by Promethean (disclosure, I work for them) which you can just hook a PC into.

  • Hi Everyone,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you all, I haven't been well so only back in the office this morning. Thanks for the info, I'll have another look now and see if I can find anything to do with IE and Smart TV's. If not then I think connecting the laptop is the best idea.

Thanks again, and I hope everyone has a nice day.

    Kind Regards,

    Craig
