Need help for SQL Server Standard edition 2008R2 ????????

  • I am desperately looking for one help.Could you please look below doubt and confirm the same?

Does SQL Server Standard edition 2008R2 supports 8 core processor? Will 8 core processor will be treated as one processor or not?

I need to know whether sql2008R2 std edition supports 8 core,so if supports,we can go with this for installation in production rather than enterprise

which can save cost to the company.

  • it supports 4 physical sockets , but each socket is allowed to be multi-core

so you can have 4 8-core processors (32 cores) if you want

    MVDBA

  • as per the link you posted - each socket is one licence.. therefore 1 8-core socket will count as 1 cpu licence

    MVDBA

  • My interpretation would be that it certainly should do and that you will be correctly licenced if you buy per socket rather than per logical core.

This is well signposted to have changed in SQL 2012 of course.
