Default Trace returns Error (Msg 568, Level 16, State 23, Line 1)

  • Morning All

Looking through the default trace this morning to check what time some log files increased in size to see if I could track it down to a process, I get the following error

    Msg 568, Level 16, State 23, Line 1

Encountered an error or an unexpected end of trace file 'E:\MSSQL10.INSTANCE01\MSSQL\Log\log_2876.trc'.

I know there is a connect issue raised for this on 4K sector disks, but how can I find out if my drive is actually a 4k sector disk? The servers are hosted by a 3rd party so I have no direct access to the backend SAN, but have admin rights to the SQL cluster.

  • The Microsoft "System Information" app will show sector sizes for each disk under the storage section.

  • Thanks Ian, now this just gets stranger, all drives are a 512 sector, which according to the connect articles shouldnt cause an issue with reading the default trace.

  • did you find a solution to this? I am hitting the same issue.
