Installing multiple versions of SQL server on Windows 2016 cluster

  • Hi team,

We have a two node Windows 2016  cluster with single SQL server 2014 instance. Now I want to add one more node with SQL server 2016 instance. Will it impact any thing when I do failover ??

I don't want to keep same configuration on New node because new instance doesn't required high configuration.

  • There are nothing against that. But in general I wouldn't recommend such configuration. Why don't you migrate 2014 databases on 2016?

Is this new instance to be clustered?
    Is the 2014 instance clustered?
