Hi all
We are looking to use Policy Based Management to enforce some policies it our SQL Server Estate. The more I look into it the more I feel like it's a feature that is no longer being invested in. There is not a lot of recent articles or forum posts on it, and there are holes that you would have expected would have been fixed by now but haven't.... anyone care to share their thoughts on this? Anyone using PBM in their environment?

The biggest value I find in the use of PBM is in conjunction with Central Management Server. Also the EPM Framework is a fantastic tool for reporting on Policy compliance.

Hi David - yes we are using CMS and EPM - all very cool. Just still feel as though little is being done with it. Hasn't really changed much from SQL 2008 has it?

PBM is pretty amazing. Unfortunately it gets extremely little love from Microsoft. There have been additions to it with new functionality, but overall, it gets almost no attention. I don't think enough people jumped on it. Probably most people are just using straight Powershell to do everything these days. It works, but it wasn't as easy as PBM.

Thanks Grant - good to get your views, which just confirms my own thinking. We still going to use it - it will do the job as is. Just hope Microsoft don't decide to decommission it in future!
